The Old Course opened in 1969 as the first of the Vilamoura courses. Frank Pennink routed it over gently rolling ground covered in umbrella pines, and the trees are the main hazard: stray off the fairway and you are often blocked out. Martin Hawtree remodelled the course in 1996 and it reopened the following year. It hosted the Portuguese Open in 1976.
At par 73 and 6,254 metres from the back tees it is a proper test, and accuracy matters more than length. It is now part of the Dom Pedro collection, alongside Pinhal, Laguna, Millennium and Victoria. In many of our Vilamoura packages the Old Course is available for a supplement on top of the included rounds. The clubhouse has a restaurant, bar, pro shop and a full practice area.

Is the Old Course included in my package?
It depends on the hotel. Some Vilamoura packages include it, others offer it for a supplement in place of one of the included rounds. We show this on each package.
How far is it from Faro Airport?
About 25 minutes by car. Airport transfers are not included in our packages but can be arranged on request.
Is it suitable for higher handicappers?
Yes, but it is the most demanding of the Vilamoura courses. The pines punish wayward tee shots, so bring plenty of balls and play from the right tees.
