Course maintenance in Turkey

What the terms mean

Overseeding is the annual switch from summer bermuda grass to winter rye. The course closes for roughly two weeks in late September or October while the new seed germinates, and buggies stay off the fairways for about a week afterwards so the young grass is not damaged. A course is at its very best in the weeks after overseeding.

Summer maintenance covers hollow coring, top dressing and aeration, usually in June, July or August. Some clubs close the course, others keep nine holes open or let you play while the work goes on.

Buggy restrictions mean the course is open and playing well, but buggies must stay on the paths or are not allowed at all. If walking is difficult for you, tell us and we will avoid those dates or arrange a caddie.

How we work around it

In Belek the clubs coordinate their calendars, so there is always golf somewhere: when Sueno closes the Pines the Dunes is open, when Antalya Golf Club closes the Pasha the PGA Sultan is open, and neighbouring clubs a few minutes away are usually untouched. When you send us your dates we check every course in your package against this calendar before we confirm anything, and we tell you if a swap makes your week better.
