Built in a former limestone quarry, the course uses quarry walls, sandy waste areas and water to shape holes with big changes in elevation. The par-3 4th drops into the quarry with the Pyramids behind the green.
NEWGIZA is the most dramatic of the courses west of Cairo. Thomson Perrett & Lobb built it in a former limestone quarry on the Cairo to Alexandria desert road, and it opened in 2018. It plays on two levels: sheer quarry walls, sandy waste areas and water frame holes that drop from the plateau into the old workings and climb back out again. The greens are large and well contoured, and from the back tees the course stretches past 7,300 yards.
The standout hole is the par-3 4th, which falls into the quarry with the Pyramids directly behind the green. The club has a modern clubhouse with terraces, a floodlit driving range and an academy, and it has hosted the Pro Golf Tour and the MENA Golf Tour. The Pyramids are only about 8 km away, so it pairs well with a morning of sightseeing.
