Three nines on flat, palm-lined ground by the sea, with water in play and the Atlantic wind as the main defence. The main 18 (Los Olivos + Las Palmeras) is par 72, 6,036 m from the club tees; Los Ficus is the shorter nine at 2,599 m.

Costa Ballena Ocean Golf Club is the course of the Costa Ballena resort between Rota and Chipiona, on the Atlantic coast of Cádiz. José María Olazábal designed the 27 holes, which opened in 1997 and play as three nines, Los Olivos, Las Palmeras and Los Ficus; the main 18 holes (Olivos + Palmeras) are par 72. The layout is flat and resort-style, with wide fairways framed by palms, water on several holes and a few holes running right beside the sea, so the Atlantic breeze is part of the challenge.
The practice facilities are the club’s other big draw: a natural-grass driving range around 350 metres long with room for over a hundred players, putting, chipping and approach areas, and a separate 9-hole par-3 course that is good for short-game work and a relaxed late-afternoon round.
Elba Costa Ballena Beach & Thalasso Resort is about a kilometre away and runs a free shuttle bus to the club on its own schedule, so you do not need a car for your Costa Ballena rounds.
