The courses
Estela Golf Club was designed by the Portuguese architect Duarte Sotto Mayor and opened in 1988. It lies at Rio Alto, near the resort town of Póvoa de Varzim, about 20 minutes north of Porto Airport. The club has hosted the Open de Portugal (1991), the European Amateur Championship on several occasions and the European Club Cup Trophy (2010).
The 18-hole course is par 72 and measures 6,029 metres from the white tees. It runs through the sand dunes along the Atlantic shoreline, with sea views from many holes, and has two large lakes and Bermuda grass. As on any coastal links, the wind plays a large part, and the course is a long walk, so many visitors take a buggy. The clubhouse looks out over the course to the Atlantic, and has a restaurant, bar and pro shop, with a driving range and putting green for practice.

About 20 minutes by car. From central Porto it is about 40 minutes.
Is it a walking course?
It can be walked, but the layout is long and exposed to the wind, so many visitors hire a buggy.
