Al Maaden is one of the most elegant courses in Marrakech. Kyle Phillips, the architect of Kingsbarns in Scotland, designed it, and it opened in 2010 on 72 hectares south of the city with the Atlas Mountains as a backdrop. The club calls it a Moroccan oasis with a Scottish touch: the fairways roll and tumble in a links-like way, while landscape designer Fernando Caruncho added a series of water gardens and a sculpture park runs through the estate.
The championship course is long from the back tees, but it is walkable and fair from the forward tees. There is a 300-metre driving range, a grass practice area and an academy, and a good restaurant for lunch after your round.
