Oporto Golf Club was founded in 1890 by British residents of Porto, many of them in the port wine trade, which makes it the oldest golf club in Portugal. It began as a rudimentary nine-hole course and took its present name in 1901. The Skeffington Cup has been played here every year since 1891. The wood-panelled clubhouse displays the club’s trophies and honours boards. Visitors are welcome, and booking ahead is essential, especially at weekends.
The course has 18 holes, par 71, and measures 5,638 metres from the white tees. It is a flat links layout on sandy ground beside the Atlantic at Paramos, just south of Espinho and about 17 km south of Porto. Fairways are firm, and the wind, especially from the north, is the main defence. Several of the par 3s are long, and the course closes with a par 5.

Where can I stay?

How far is it from Porto Airport?
About 35 minutes by car. From central Porto it is about 30 minutes.
Is the course open every day?
Visitors are welcome, but booking ahead is essential, especially at weekends and on public holidays. The restaurant is closed on Mondays, and soft spikes are required.
